It’s a great replacement for some complicated and clunky IDEs or viewing tools. For a minimalist like me, a good text editor is even more necessary. A text editor can do as little or as much as you want. A text editor is arguably a tool that comes with all systems, for Windows it comes with Notepad, for Linux it might be gedit (of course there are many Linux distributions and they may ship various text editors).
